Tree Planting within TezLab
Why Trees?
We build TezLab because we want to contribute to the Tesla community, so our team thought "Hey, let's think of a way to make it really easy to give back to the planet too!"
We didn't want to present carbon data without some way of making a difference for those that are so inclined. After all, it's not really feasible to simply replace a coal-fired power plant if you happen to live in an area that uses coal for energy.
Enter tree planting.
Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter water, provide habitat, provide ingredients for medicine, and in some cases, even provide jobs. Tree planting is an activity that is easy, accessible, and provides real-world benefits.
Do trees really absorb CO₂?
Yes, however planting trees is not equivalent to an immediate carbon offset or a carbon credit. Since planting trees is unquestionably positive for the planet and something you can feel good about, we've simplified things for the purposes of illustration. The values you see in TezLab are theoretical based on the average carbon sequestration capacity of a tree at maturity. This varies by species and age.
Are these trees real? HOW?! Where?
Yes, of course they are! Working with like-minded environmentally friendly developers at DigitalHumani, we've given TezLab's systems the capability to automatically place 'orders' with reputable tree planting organizations (yes, really). Through actions within TezLab, we dispatch orders for trees to the tree-planting organization. The organization bills us for the tree, their tree planting initiatives receive funding, trees get planted, you feel good, the earth feels good, everybody wins.
Tree planting funding is directed (currently) to OneTreePlanted - a registered nonprofit and reputable organizer of reforestation efforts. Their reforestation projects take place all around the world in areas of high need and high impact. When placing an order for a tree, you can pick the project you'd like to direct funding to or allow the system to randomly decide for you.
Since the impacts of climate change are global, OneTreePlanted's efforts are targeted to areas of need around the world and these areas change periodically.
Current active projects receiving funding from TezLab are located in:
- Appalachia
- Australia
- Brazil
- Canada

Trees planted are appropriate species for the area.
TezLab collects a small fee on tree orders in part to cover payment processing costs.
Do I have to plant trees in Tezlab?
No, absolutely not. We want to make the option available for those that really want to go above and beyond and be eco champions.
You've made an environmentally friendly choice already by driving a Tesla, and the planet is grateful!
